Inception returns to Dalkeith Palace 04 – 14 May 2023, showcasing a curated collection of artists. Launched in 2021, this year 35 modern and contemporary artists, sculptors, photographers and painters are invited to ‘take over’ The Palace. This exciting, sales-led contemporary art exhibition has been beautifully curated by Restoration Yard’s very own Head of Creative & Retail Operations – Taisir Gibreel.
Who is Taisir Gibreel?
Taisir – or Sisi as she is affectionately known – has a rich experience in retail, buying and merchandising, and is also a successful creative artist. Her wealth of experience brings the visual magic to The Store. Sisi manages the retail team, buys all the collections for The Store, oversees Restoration Yard retail pop-ups at Dalkeith Country Park events and is growing Restoration Yard’s beautiful own-brand collections of beauty, food and stationery.
The creative behind the Inception Art Show
In its first two years, Sisi tells us “Inception was a celebration of the work of our artistic community and gave artists a platform for their collections in the remarkable building that is Dalkeith Palace, as well as the opportunity to network with each other and engage with the public.”
What themes will visitors experience this year? “Inception surveys the engagement of contemporary artists with themes of humanity, nature, redemption, reflection, guardianship and peace. Bringing together local and regional artists who work across varying media.”
How did you select the art? “The art was selected to interpret, explore and present themes and concepts related to the fragility and strength of nature and humanity, allowing the viewer to drift through transcendent moments captured through the media of art in all its forms. We aim to offer moments of stillness and reflection.”
Meet Sisi at Inception
Adorning one of the many walls in Dalkeith Palace will be Sisi’s artwork. Celebrating colour, culture and diversity is her philosophy. Sisi’s sense of colour and pattern and her fearless approach to art and design lead to highly distinctive and elaborate combinations of colour and print; creating bold and abstract art and designs.
